Jeffrey Schlupp eyes wing-back role at Crystal Palace

Jeffrey Schlupp hopes to make his mark this season at Crystal Palace in a wing-back role, after starting in that position against Liverpool on Wednesday.

The former Leicester City man was named in the starting line-up for Palace's semi-final clash in the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong, with Schlupp playing down the left-hand side and showing some promising signs in that role.

And the 24-year-old says he feels that is a role he is well suited to, adding that he hopes to impress new manager Frank de Boer in that position this season.

"Wing-back is probably my strongest position," he said.

"It is about fitness and it is a new role this season, but I feel like I suit it well and hopefully I can do well there this season," he told www.eagles.cpfc.co.uk.

Palace lost the game 2-0, with goals from Dominic Solanke and Divock Origi handing Jurgen Klopp's side victory and putting them through to the final to face Leicester City at the expense of Palace, who now face West Brom in the third/fourth place play-off match on Saturday.

And Schlupp said there was disappointment at the result despite it being pre-season, but added that there were positives to take for the Eagles moving forward.

"Obviously we wanted to go out there and win, but I think the workout was important," he said.

"Some of the lads got 60 to 75 minutes under their belts and I would like to think there were positives for us from the game.

"Part of pre-season is to go out there and try new things. We have a new manager and he wants to get his ideas across and hopefully we can improve for the next game."
