EMY Awards nomination has motivated me - Ampofo Ankrah

Ace broadcaster and President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, says his recent nomination for the EMY man of the year award has given him extra motivation to continue with the sports he has been credited with as a founding father.

Recent media reports suggested that Ampofo Ankrah was about to quit beach soccer after almost a decade of helping to build the fastest growing sport in the West African country.

However, in an exclusive interview with UK based Hot 90.0 FM, Ampofo Ankrah revealed that the overwhelming messages of support and commendations have made him rethink his decision to play a backstage role.

Ampofo Ankrah was beaten to the ultimate title of EMY Man of the Year by another sports development stalwart Yaw Sakyi who has also taken basketball in Ghana to another level over the last decade.

It was considered to be the toughest pool of nominees including GFA President Kwesi Nyatakyi, Ghana Rugby boss Herbert Mensah and PFAG Founder Anthony Baffoe.

The organizers, voting public and board of EMY decided to give the award to someone from the least financed and lesser "known" sports in Ghana as a motivation for other struggling sports disciplines.

"Yaw Sakyi absolutely deserves this. I know how hard he's been working all these years and I wish him the very best for more success"

Ampofo Ankrah expressed the hope that the award will encourage corporate bodies to support beach soccer and other least financed sports which offer huge possibilities and potential for the youth in Ghana.

The multi talented communicator has vast experience in Ghana, African and international broadcasting which he began at age 21 in 1997.
