Ghana Football Association Executive Committee member Winfred Osei Palmer is impressed with the Black Starlets second place finish at the Africa U17 Championship.

Ghana managed the runners-up position despite high hopes for the team to clinch the title for the third time.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side suffered a 0-1 defeat at the hands of fellow West African neighbours Mali who defended the trophy having won in 2015.

Osei Palmer is pleased with the team’s laudable display in Gabon.

“The boys did well, they made us proud. People will remember Ghana for the impact we made. These are young players that are coming up. In terms of winning mentality, I think it’s there. There won every game but unfortunately lost out in the finals,” he told Happy FM.

“They made a very big effort to win it but unfortunately we lost that final. I will tell the boys they have made a very strong case for themselves. When you ask Toku, Ayiah, Leveh and Najeeb and the entire team they have done a household work? Let’s keep them together,”

“They have the opportunity to go to the world Cup, they can win it. They have the opportunity to graduate to the under-20 and they can win that too. So it doesn’t mean things have fallen apart. We have to encourage them. We should not disband the team lets keep them together.”

Ghana will now prepare for the FIFA U17 World Cup which takes place in India in October.
