OKESS appeals to old students assist improve facilities

An appeal has gone to former athletes and football stars, who attended Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS), to assist mobilize resources to upgrade sporting facilities in the school.

Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, Medical Superintendent of the Tema General Hospital and President of the Old Students Association, said they needed to give back to their alma mater.

Ex-Black Stars Captain, John Mensah, Sulley Muntari, Jerry Akaminko, Kumasi Asante Kotoko legend, Opoku Afriyie and Ghanaian international sprinter, Vida Anim, are all products of the school.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s “Home Coming Summit” of the association in Kumasi, Dr. Opoku-Adusei, made reference to its past dominance of sporting competitions and said that all-conquering and strong sporting performance needed to return.

OKESS has been struggling with inadequate sporting facilities, something he indicated, should radically change.

The theme chosen for the summit scheduled for July is “Mobilizing resources to achieve academic and sports excellence – the role of stakeholders”.

The event would be used to raise funds to support the school’s infrastructure development.

It would also provide the opportunity to mentor the students – motivate then to work hard on their books and to fully exploit their God-given talents and potentials.

Dr. Opoku-Adusei rallied members of the association to accept to do more to help improve the quality of teaching and learning in the school.

He said the summit was going to examine the challenges and find ways of dealing with these.
