Ghanaian defender Harrison Afful is unsure which country his newborn son will represent when he grows up.

Afful's wife, Roberta delivered their second child, Kendrick, on Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio in the USA and even before the youngster starts walking his father has already been quizzed about which country he will represent if he becomes a footballer.

Asked by the Columbus Dispatch if Kendrick will play for the United States or Ghanaian national team in his future, the Columbus Crew star laughed and said, “We’ll see.”

Afful, who also has a daughter named Kimora, said it was special for his wife to give birth to a child in Columbus, where he made his MLS debut for Columbus Crew in August 2015.

“It’s a good mood,” Afful said after training Wednesday, hospital bracelet still on his right wrist. “I need to enjoy it.”

“I’ve always been a family guy. God’s been so good to me. My first child is a girl and I was praying for a boy for the second one. God answered my prayers,” Afful said. “Columbus is a part of me and I’m happy to have a child here in Columbus.”

Kendrick’s father has made more than 60 appearances for Ghana’s national team, playing most recently for his home country in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, where Ghana placed fourth.

Afful is expected to be in action when the US national team takes on the Black Stars in a friendly on Saturday, July 1 in East Hartford, Connecticut.
