Hamburg trial Ghana Poku and Bortey

Bundesliga side Hamburger SV have taken two of Ghana's brightest young talents on trial as coach Klaus Toppmoller is keen to rejuvenate his ageing team.

The 19-year-old international striker Kojo Poku (pictured) has already joined training at the AOL-Arena, while compatriot John Bortey is about to arrive in north Germany next week.

The trial was brokered by former Leeds United star Anthony Yeboah, who became an agent after hanging up his boots.

Yeboah, who had a successful four-year spell at Hamburg from 1997 to 2001, is convinced that Poku has what it takes to succeed in the Bundesliga.

"He's an extremely talented young player," said Yeboah, who has already masterminded the transfer of Ghana youngster Isaac Boakye to Arminia Bielefeld.

Boakye, one of the best goal scorers in Bundesliga 2, was offered to then Hamburg coach Kurt Jara, but the Austrian failed to realise the player's potential, a verdict which still makes Yeboah fume.

"The coach did not even say hello to him, he was simply not interested at all.

"That was certainly annoying," admits Yeboah, who is hopeful that Toppmoller will give the youngster a fair chance to earn a move to Germany.
