Azumah Nelson rules out legal action against Jeff Fenec

Africa’s greatest boxer Azumah Nelson has revealed he decided not to take on Australian Jeff Fenec who has failed to pay him his purse for a high level exhibition fight in 2008. Azumah and Fenec fought a third time in 2008 in Australia with both boxers aged 50, in a spectacle that attracted global attention.

Fenec had previously been defeated by Azumah in a rematch after an initial bout between the two had ended in a controversial draw. Azumah’s defeat of Fenec in 1992 also earned him the fighter of the year accolade by the prestigious Ring Magazine.

The exhibition bout staged 16 years later in Fenec’s homeland was won by the Australian on points. Jeff Fenec however added the accumulated sum to the point tally as he refused to give the Ghanaian his due share of the money since that famous fight.

Zum Zum as he was known in his playing days, however placed the fear of God ahead of any legal battle as he vehemently ruled out any legal adjudication in terms of reclaiming his rightful money.

“It is true he didn’t honour but that is OK. Money is not everything.

“The greatest thing is that my father led me to God from my infancy and I have God and everything that I want.

“To me that is enough and I have the favour of God that is bigger than money and everything”, the legendary boxer said.

The Ghanaian remained one of the rare breeds of African finest to have graced the gloves with many individual gongs under his belt.
