Referee Sukah stands by Super Clash decision

Referee Samuel Sukah insists he made the right call following the controversial penalty in Sunday's Super Clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League.

With the score reading goalless, the referee pointed to the spot in favour of the Phobians on 73 minutes after Kotoko's Ahmed Adams was adjudged to have handled in the box.

Vincent Atinga stepped up and expertly converted for the only goal of the game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“What is a dubious penalty, I don’t understand why they call the penalty a dubious one, it was a right decision I took,” Sukah told Peace FM.

“I was standing few metres away from the scene, why would I cheat any of the two sides, especially when I know what it entails when it comes to games between the two teams?

“The defender threw his body and the ball struck his arm.

“I am a Christian and my religion forbids cheating. Therefore, I wouldn’t do that, so that decision I took was the right decision.”

Sunday's result makes it 35 victories for Hearts against Kotoko in 105 meetings.

The win lifted the Phobians from ninth to six on the league table.
