Dr Owusu Ansah reveals Sports Ministry prefers a local coach for the Black Stars

A member of the committee searching for the next Ghana coach Dr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah has revealed the Sports Ministry prefers a local man.

The former National Sports Authority chief has been appointed as a government representative on the six-member committee set up by the Ghana Football Association.

He joins join Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi, Black Stars management committee chairman George Afriyie, Ghana FA Technical Director Oti Akenteng, Executive Committee member Opoku Nti and the FA's Protocol and International Relations Officer Alex Asante.

It has been reported that more than 70 coaches have applied for the vacant coaching position including some top-notch foreign coaches.

But Dr Ansah says the Sports Ministry prefers to have a local man in-charge of the Black Stars.

.''I’ve been a coach before and I know what it takes to be a coach. All coaches should have a certain theoretical knowledge about principles of coaching. It is only the discipline that differs. So an athletic coach is no different from a football coach. So I’m looking at somebody who has a sound base, sound knowledge about principles of coaching,” he stated.

“My preference and the preference of the Ministry is for a local coach, but then like I said we are looking for quality. Personally I will be looking for somebody who is a manager who knows about the principles of coaching, somebody who can manage egos of the calibre of Black Stars players.''
