Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris makes the list of three nominees for Lorient's Player of the Month of January award following his consistent performance for the French Ligue 1 side since the beginning of the year.

The 25-year-old was left out of Ghana's squad that participated in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He has been in fine form, inspiring his club to win two games out of four in all competitions.

He scored a brace in their 3-1 win over Guingamp as well as finding the back of the net when they lost 3-2 to Dijon in a league match.

However, Waris must beat competitions from teammates Sylvain Marveaux and Jimmy Cabot to clinch the prize set to be announced in the coming days after votes from supporters.

After playing 13 games without scoring, the Ghanaian netted in back-to-back games last November and was voted as the best player of that month, for the first time.

Waris has made 23 appearances for Lorient this season, starting 19 games and scoring a total of seven goals. He is four goals shy of his own record set in his maiden campaign with the club last season.

Lorient are rock-bottom on the log with 22 points, four points adrift of safety. They will lock horns with Nice next weekend as they hope to avoid relegation.
