Kotoko Agree Top 4 Participation

The Ghana League Clubs Association is heaving a massive sigh of relief after Kumasi Asante Kotoko confirmed their participation in the Coca Cola Top 4 competition.

The league champions had threatened to withdraw as both parties struggled to agree on an appearance fee for the club.

Though all four clubs in the competition has agreed on 120 million cedis as appearance fee for every club, Kotoko said their size and pulling power meant they should be paid more than the other clubs.

The club therefore asked for 120 million but Ghalca said paying them more than that would be setting a bad precedent while Hearts of Oak, the other main attraction in the competition threatened to walk out if Kotoko were paid more appearance fee.

In addition to their demand for an appearance fee of 400 million ceids, Kotoko also wanted 50 per cnt of all gate proceeds from their home matches. Ghalca refused the proposals but would instead allow home teams to charge above the Ghalca approved rates and keep the profit.

King Faisal and Liberty Professionals are the other clubs in the competition which is worth 1.5 billion cedis in sponsorship.
