We need psychological boost to beat the host nation – Coach Basigi

Head coach of the national female football team Yusif Basigi has revealed his players need to be worked on psychologically to be able to take on Cameroon in the semi-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Queens, who qualified in second place from group B of the tournament, meet the host nation who went unbeaten from group A without conceding a goal on Tuesday at 15:00 GMT.

Ahead of the big game for Ghana, head coach Basigi claims his team needs to be psychologically prepared to endure the intimidation that will come from the home fans.

“We have played against them several times, and it’s been difficult but this time we need more of the psychological preparation to beat them.” He said.

“They will have their home fans behind them to intimidate our girls which we need to be ready for,” Basigi added.

Since 1998, Ghana has only lost once to Cameroon with the defeat coming in the 2004 AWC semi-finals.

The Black Queens in 2015 beat Cameroon to win the All Africa Games for the first time in their history and will be hoping to do same today to book a place in the finals of the 2016 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
