University of Ghana football league launched

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has partnered the University of Ghana to launch the UG Football League which is set to commence on October 12, 2016.

The President of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi, speaking at the launch on Tuesday October 4, assured the University of the Association’s support.

“The GFA will extend its knowledge and expertise to help properly organise football competitions. University of Ghana football league will witness a major uplift, as the GFA technical directorate will offer its expertise in match organisation. Since the referees are students, our referees department will also train them to become professionals,” Mr Nyantakyi stated.

The Ghana FA boss was also appointed onto the Sports Advisory Board of the University and will play a key role in the planning and management of the UG Football League.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu expressed his delight with the partnership between the two bodies in the promotion of sports in the country.

“We are happy to have the partnership between the Ghana Football Association and the University of Ghana. This is a major uplift for the game and we are truly thankful,” he said.
