The Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation’s general secretary, Patric Ayindoho Coffie, says his outfit’s registration for professional boxers interested in competing at this year’s Rio Olympics will end June 23.

The International Boxing Association (AIBA) in collaboration with the IOC has introduced professional boxing to the multi-spot in Rio. The sport made its Olympic debut at St Louis in 1904 and has seen boxers wear headgear to fight to prevent injuries.

Meanwhile, according to Ayindoho boxers selected will be screened well ahead of the Venezuela qualifies next month.

“The boxers must be interested first and then will be screened by the technical team first.

The technical team has been mandated to scout for boxers and open registration. Then later sub it to AIBA for the competition”, he told Starr Sports.
