Avram Grant can win AFCON 2017 - Mokoena

Former South Africa captain, Aaron Mokoena is confident Coach Avram Grant is the right tactician to lead the Black Stars to its fifth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January.

According to Mokoena the former Chelsea trainer came close to winning the AFCON title in 2015 in Equatorial Guinea but lost the final to Ivory Coast on penalties.

But after supervising Ghana’s qualification to the Gabon 2017 this time round Mokoena is cocksure the Israeli can break the country’s trophy drought since 1982.

“There is no doubt, the previous Cup of Nations the Black Stars did well to reach the finals where no one believed in Avram and the players, but Ghana had a balance of experience and youth players.

"He is the man to win this time”, he told Starr Sports.

Mokoena worked under Avram at Portsmouth in 2010 and retired in 2013 after a year with Bidvest Wits in the PSL.
