GFA presents certificates to coaches/administrators

Wa, Sept 29, GNA - The Ghana Football Association (GFA), on Monday presented certificates to 89 people who were successful in courses the football governing body organised for coaches, referees and administrators in the Upper West Region.

The week long course was organised under the GFA's five-year football development plan.

Those who received certificates consisted of 19 football coaches including one woman, 29 male referees and a female counterpart and 40 football administrators.

Mr George Dasoberi, Co-ordinator of the five-year development plan represented the GFA at the ceremony.

In a brief speech, Mr Dasoberi said in all, 129 people took part in the course but 89 met the criteria set by the GFA's Sports Development Directorate to qualify for certificates of merit.

He commended the successful participants on their achievement and urged them to use their newly acquired knowledge to ensure the growth and promotion of football in the region.

Mr Dasoberi announced that an intermediate course for the 89 people would be held early next year.

He said some of the topics treated during the course included, theory of coaching, practical demonstration, the laws of the game as well as laws governing football.

Alhaji Zaidu Tamimu, an Assistant Director at the Regional Co-ordinating Council who chaired the function reminded the new football officials that the development of soccer in the region rested in their hands.

He urged them to eschew antagonism between referees and coaches by nipping in the bud, the bad blood between the two football supervisory groups.
