Nana Yaw leads Table tennis team to Abuja

Accra, Sept 24 - GNA - Nana Yaw Boateng, the teenage table tennis player from Koforidua in the Eastern Region came tops of a three day round robin tournament organised by the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) to select players for the All African Games in Abuja. The youthful player amassed a total of 32 points to win from a field of seven, which included three professional players based in Europe.

Courage Nanevie of the Ghana Navy gained 30 points to pick the second spot while Holland based Solomon Akonor placed third on 29 points.

The fourth position with 26 points went to Eric Hammond who plays in England and the fifth spot was taken by pre tournament favourite Holland based Eric Amoah who gathered 23 points, same as Acquah Aikins and Joseph Osei who, however, failed to make the team Mr Ebo Bartels, chairman of the GTTA told the GNA Sports at the end of the competition that the five top players from the tournament will move into camp immediately to prepare for the Games, which are just 10 days away.

Meanwhile, the National Sports Council (NSC) will announce the names of the entire contingent to Games at a press conference slated for the Hospitality Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium at 11 a.m. tomorrow. 24 Sept, 03
