President of Ghana Premier League side, New Edubiase United, Mr. Yakubu Abdul Salam, has lauded government’s decision to build a stadium at New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region of Ghana describing the initiative as a positive sign to boost sports and accelerate socio-economic development at the community.

According to the football administrator, beside motivating players and technical handlers of the club to excel in the Premier League due to the massive home support in their league matches, the entire community at New Edubiase and its environs stand to gain from the stadium.

“It [the stadium] will induce the youth interested in football to nurture and develop their potentials very well and also promote the businesses of small scale industrialists in and around New Edubiase” Mr. Abdul Salam was quoted to have said in an interview.

He commended the government for the initiative and pleaded with the contractors to speed up constructional works to enable the project finish on time.

He also commended the chief of New Edubiase for releasing a large track of land for the construction of the stadium and assured of their unflinching support to speed up the project.

He said the drawings of the stadium with an initial capacity of 5,000 spectators had been completed and constructional works had started already.

“The stadium has two football pitches-an astro turf and a green grass- as well as a hospital, club house and a restaurant among other facilities. It has 5,000 capacity, but it will eventually be upgraded to a 15, 000 capacity”, he noted.

On the benefits of the stadium to the club, Abdul Salam said it would not only reduce expenditure of playing home matches at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium, but would afford their massive fans opportunity to watch their idol club without travelling long distance.

That, he said, would increase the financial position of the club to make it more formidable and win trophies in the elite division.
