Ghana defender John Paintsil has rebuffed reports indicating he has been sacked by South African Premier League side Maritzburg United.

The 33-year-old had earlier revealed he will not be featuring for the ABSA Premier League side at the end of the season following the Club’s unwillingness to extend his contract.

Some media houses, however, claimed the player has been sacked by the Club for non-performance and misconduct.

Paintsil has expressed his resentment at the recent rumours indicating he has been dismissed by his Club.

“I don’t know why people will fabricate such stories. I have not been sacked by my Club,” he told Atinka FM.

“I only said the Club are not willing to extend my contract and I will be leaving at the end of the season.

“That doesn’t mean I have been sacked by the Club. I am still a player of the Club and still playing for them so where from this news.

“I don’t know the reason why some people will bring about such a story.

“How will my family feel when they see such stories on the internet?”

The Ghanaian international is expected to find himself a new Club at the end of the 2015/16 South African Premier League.

The right-back joined Maritzburg from fellow South African Club Santos but has been deemed substandard at the Club ever since the arrival of German coach Ernst Middindorp.
