Goldfields' Appeal Dismissed ..

BY DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE, As Arsenals move to second on the league table

The Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association on Wednesday wasted no time in dismissing an appeal brought before it by Obuasi Goldfields for using an unqualified player in the latter’s premier league encounter with Berekum Arsenals, which the Brong Ahafo Gunners lost by a lone goal. Space FM can now confirm that Berekum Arsenals have thus been awarded the maximum three points and three goals, and reasons for the dismissal of the appeal would be communicated to stakeholders on the 31st July 2003, a source at the meeting hinted SPACE FM.

It would be recalled that on Thursday, 17th July 2003, the Disciplinary Committee of the FA upheld a protest filed by Berekum Arsenals against Goldfields for using an unqualified player. The player at the centre of the unfortunate incident, Yaw Owusu had been red-carded in the last match of the 2002 premier season, and was therefore ineligible to feature in the first match in the 2003 premier league.

This new development thus puts the Gunners on level pegging with in-form Kumasi Asante Kotoko on 20 points each, with the Porcupine Warriors ahead on superior goals aggregate. The Aboakesee lads now sink to the 12th position on the league table with 7 points.
