Comoros pitch was bad - Sumaila

Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila

Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila says he thinks the nature of the field in Comoros contributed to the Black Stars' inability to defeat the lowly-ranked Island city.

Ghana settled for a goalless draw with the 117th ranked team in the first leg of the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Moroni and Rashid thinks the field did not favour the the Black Stars.

Deputy captain of the team, Andre Ayew had earlier opined that the Astroturffield in Moroni was not good for the players with substantive captain Asamoah Gyan making similar comments before the game.

The Kuwaiti-based Ghana defender in an interview with GHANAsoccernet.com said he believes the field contributed to the draw.

"As a player I know it is always difficult playing on an Astroturf. It requires more energy and I think the players even complained about it before the game."

"You can easily get injured too on the Astroturf when playing so it makes players extra careful. The field did not help us but I know we shall beat them in Kumasi," the Al Qadsia defender added.

Ghana will be hosting the Les Coelecantes at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
