No coach deserves honour - Herbert Mensah

Newly appointed coach of Inter Allies FC, Herbert Addo says no one deserves to be awarded the Best Coach of the Season since there is no laid down marker to assess performance.

AshantiGold’s Bashir Hayford is widely expected to emerge as Coach of the Season at the annual Premier League Awards ceremony on Friday after leading the Miner’s to win their first league title in almost two decades in the just ended campaign.

He is however challenged for the gong by WAFA’s John Kila and Abdulrahman Ameyaw of Aduana Stars.

Addo who left midway into Hearts of Oak’s miserable campaign only to return to Inter Allies this off-season believes no one deserves the accolade as it is not based on performance.

“The countries that give away that award look at performance first on the monthly basis,” he said.

“For instance, in a month, the coach that wins more matches in that month is adjudged the coach of the month.

“This compiled will then give you the coach of the year. So you can even win the league but yet still not be named the Best coach.

“Our football here makes it very difficult to assess the performance of coaches because many factors come to play.

“A coach can do all the work he can but then on a match day, his opponents can pay money and get the results.

“This situation therefore makes it difficult to assess the performance of coaches so let to me alone, I cannot appoint anyone as the Best Coach”.
