Ghana’s tennis team, the Golden Rackets failed to qualify to the Euro-African Zone II in the Davis Cup following 3-0 defeat to Algeria on Tuesday.

Team Ghana needed a win against the North Africans to remain in the competition having lost their opening set to Namibia.

Ghana’s team comprising of George Darko, Wisdon Na-Adjrago, Japheth Anwasiba Bagerbaseh, Pascal Ziyab Alome and Captain Joseph Acquah, however, lost in three straight sets to Algeria to bow out of the competition.

The Golden Rackets, however, have a game left to play against Tunisia for pride before returning home. The quartet was optimistic to qualify the Euro-African Zone II following their gold-winning feat at the 2015 All Africa Games.

But poor planning seems to have cost the highly talented side with a last minute confirmation of their participation in the Davis Cup being staged in Cairo, Egypt and the trip was even made possible by philanthropist Daniel Mackorley [MacDan] to Casablanca to camp ahead of the Davis Cup.

Reports are that government never played any role in the participation of the tournament.
