Andre Ayew says Jordan’s goal was ‘weird’

Andre Ayew got the last laugh when he played against his brother Jordan Ayew in the English Premier League game between Aston Villa and Swansea City.

Prior to the game, Jordan had outshone his brother in their first meeting in the French Ligue 1 when FC Lorient played Olympique Marseille. Jordan Ayew scored twice in that game and claimed the man of the match, leaving his elder brother Andre with his one goal against Lorient.

In the Premier League tie, Jordan scored his first goal for Aston Villa to put the home side 1-0 up against Andre’s Swansea City.

Andre Ayew, however, turned up to score the winner in the game giving his Swansea side all three points on the day.

Andre, who missed an opportunity just before his younger brother got his goal for Aston Villa said after the game:

“We’ve been in this situation before [Playing against each other]. He scored just after I missed an opportunity that Bafe [Bafetimbi Gomez] laid for me.

“Their goalkeeper made a save and on the counter attack he [Jordan Ayew] scored. It was quite weird, but I stayed in the game. The guys gave me more confidence and at the end Gylfi scored a great freekick that really put us back into the game.”

Andre was, however, delighted to see Jordan Ayew get on the score sheet and acknowledged his performance in the game.

“He scored a great goal after I missed an opportunity. And I’m quite happy for him for the effort he put on the field today. He had a great game but what is important is Swansea wins, and we won this game and I’m very happy,” the former Olympique Marseille player said.

The Swansea City player who has now scored five goals in ten games for the Wales club told of the winning side:

“I’m very happy that we won this game. It’s been a difficult situation for the past four to five games, but we got this victory away from home which is our first this season. We hope to build on this victory and get more victories in the future.”
