The Ghana Blind Union (GBU), will next month organise the maiden edition of the “GBU Sports National Goalball Championship” at the Essipong Stadium.

The championship slated for 5th to 9th November 2015, is to ensure that GBU sports takes sports and recreation to the doorstep of blind and partially sighted persons in Ghana.

It is also aimed at promoting the sport in the region as well as other parts of the country.

Eric Kissi President of GBU is confident the championship will serve as the needed platform for promoting the sport.

Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for blind athletes, originally devised in 1946 by the Austrian Hanz Lorenzen and German Sepp Reindle as a means of assisting the rehabilitation of visually impaired World War II veterans.
