Baba Rahman: I need to learn more

Chelsea defender Baba Rahman has admitted he has to work harder following his Premier League debut for the club over the weekend.

The Ghana international started at the left of the Blues defence, with Cesare Azpilicueta shifted to the right in the absence of the injured Branislav Ivanovic, as the defending champions recorded a 2-0 home win over Aston Villa thanks to a Diego Costa’s 34th minute strike and an Alan Hutton own goal.

“I think I still need to lean more and I want to improve game after game,” Baba said.

“It was a hard game, but the most important thing was to get a win. Everybody is happy and we’re hoping things continue to go this way.

“We are looking forward to all the games and we just want to keep on winning.”

Saturday’s game was Baba’s first Premier League outing for the Londoners since his five-year move to the club in the summer.

The ex-Greuther Furth man joined Chelsea in August after making 31 appearances for Augsburg in the German Bundesliga.

He had been largely restricted to the bench, having made a single appearance for Chelsea in the Uefa Champions League against Maccabi Tel-Aviv and a League Cup appearance against Walsall.

However, with Ivanovic out until November, and Chelsea not having been in the best of shapes this season, the former Asante Kotoko and Dreams FC man is expected to keep his starting spot when the Blues play Dinamo Kiev in the Champions League on Tuesday.
