Felix Sakora Production organizes athletic competition

The Felix Sakora Production, a sporting firm has organized a day’s athletic event for the youth of Teshie, Accra and Tema.

The maiden event, which will henceforth be an annual event is aimed at reviving athletics and to keep the youth active.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA, Mr Felix Timaan, also known as "Sakora", owner of Felix Sakora Production said it has been his cherished dream to organize the youth to form athletic clubs in the community.

He said the youth who would excel in the annual athletics competition would be offered scholarships to train outside the country.

He called on the youth of La, Osu and Nungua to also form athletic clubs in their communities in order to take part in subsequent competitions.

The members of the Past Athletics Association of Ghana (PAAG) also took part in the event.

Sakora , a former athlete for the Eastern Regional, said Teshie is abound with talented athletes and that they needed a little push from charitable individuals and companies for them to come to limelight.

He said the Felix Sakora Production would soon launch the Teshie Athletic Club to bring back the enthusiasm in the sports.

“There is the need to engage the youth in profitable ventures, rather than allowing them to loiter around and indulge in negative vices that will eventually ruin their future.” He said.

Mr Andrew Agbo Kitcher, Chairman of the PAAG said the major problem facing athletics in the country was the non-availability of coaches.

He said the Association together with the Ghana Amateur Athletics Association (GAAA) was working to find solutions to the situation by organizing coaching courses.

Nii Nortey Dua, former Member of Parliament for Teshie and former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports commended Sakora for the initiative and assured his support to the programme.

Madam Mimi Amy Payne, an American-based Ghanaian and a supporter of the programme, appealed to the National Sports Authority (NSA), to assist in the enterprise, which would go a long way in improving the conditions of the youth and older sports men and women.

Certificates were presented to athletes who participated in the competition.
