Samplex Limited win Econet golf

Sample Nigeria Limited qualified to represent Nigeria in the World Econet Challenge Golf Championship scheduled for Spain in July, this year.

Samplex scored 206 points to win the Econet Challenge Golf Championship which ended at the Achimota Golf Course in Accra on Sunday.

Samplex who were represented by Emmanuel Newlott, M. Ubi, S.U. Amodi and Kay Kwapong, scored 109 points, on the First Day and 97 on the Second Day to beat 17 other corporate bodies that took part in the event.

Michelin Limited, the defending champions, took the second position with 202 points, Ikoyi Golf Club was third with 201 points, Ascot Fabricators placed fourth with 193 points, while Ikeja Golf Club came fifth with 191 points.

Econet Wireless Nigeria, Arcadia Petroleum, Custodian and Allied Insurance Limited Unipetrol Ghana Limited and Erricsson sponsored the competition.

The Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, in an address read for him said the government would do everything possible to ensure that the already existing cordial relationship between the two countries is strengthened.

Mr Zachary Wazara, Chief Executive Officer of Econet Wireless Nigeria, said the sponsorship is a part of the company's corporate social responsibility initiatives to make positive differences in the lives of Nigerians.

He said they decided to bring the competition to Ghana not only to promote fairness by providing a level playing field to all participants, b ut also to offer the executives excellent recreation away from home without compromising the competitive and challenging nature of a golf tournament.

Mr Samuel Leslie Adetola, Captain of the Achimota Golf Club appealed to the organisers to introduce a similar competition to Ghana.
