Wa All Stars opens with a 2-0 win

First Capital Plus Bank Premier League debutants, West Africa Football Academy suffered their first defeat in the second round of the Ghana Premier League games as Wa All Stars secured a heart-pumping 2-0 win in Wa.

Goals from Yakubu Wadudu and Stephen Nyarko put the Wa side in command, before Ashimeru Majid red card seemingly sealed the result, though late Joe Amoah and Mumuni Zakaria efforts were close to a consolation, but nothing more.

A meeting of 2nd and 8th with only 4 points separating the two sides, once the pair got into their stride they put on a show of attacking football the fixture warranted, with 34 shots on goal across 96 minutes of end-to-end action. Iddrisu Muniru was the first to test Felix Annan in the WAFA goal, who was set to have a busy half.

However it was the Sogakope based side who would come closest in the early exchanges, with Joe Amoahs' low shot forcing Richard Ofori into a fine save, before Ashimeru Majid worked his way into the box only to lose his balance and fire over.

The pendulum swung the way of Wa All Stars from there on though, with Sadiq Alhassan and Richard Akrofi forcing Felix Annan into fine saves. On the stroke of half-time Wa All Stars found the breakthrough. A quick break saw the ball rolled into the path of Yakubu Wadudu, with the Wa All Stars man's fierce deflected shot .

Yakubu Wadudu almost made it two in stoppage time, but Annan's save kept the gap down and WAFA flew out of the blocks when they returned. Ashimeru Majid was sent off after a fierce challenge on Richard Arthur. Wa All Stars almost took advantage of WAFA one man deficit. Emmanuel Gyamfi directed Kweku Baffour's cross just wide, before Richard Arthur's header forced Annan into one of the saves of the season.

John Killa boys were on the front foot, but they suddenly found themselves shoved back off balance after a lightning break. Yakubu Wadudu led the counter and, with Stephen Nyarko in support, the ball was rolled into his path and he made no mistake to compound the misery of WAFA.

A rare error by Richard Ofori almost gifted WAFA a simple goal, but Abdul Ganiu intercepted brillaintly to ensure they had the game under control. WAFA continued pressure saw Kennedy Boateng almost halve the deficit and Wa All Stars nails were chewed in the stands. But time ran out and one of the best sides after the first round of the season now faces a real struggle to hold onto the second spot.
