Said eager to make Ghana switch

Young Genoa forward Said Ahmed Said has confirmed he needs a Fifa clearance in order to feature for his native Ghana.

The 22-year-old failed to turn up at the Ghana Olympic team camp when he was invited for the All Africa Games qualifiers a couple of months ago.

The former Inter Milan youth player has previously featured for Italy at the under-19 level and so will need to request for and meet Fifa’s nationality switch requirements in order to feature for his homeland.

“I was happy when the invitation came,” he told Metro FM in Kumasi.

“But I have played for the Italian Under-19 team before so there is a process I must go through first.

“I also have an Italian passport and that is why I was able to play for Italy, but I really want to play for Ghana.”

Said’s situation is yet another case of a growing number of Ghanaian youngsters abroad who have been cap-tied at the youth level for European countries but now want to represent the Ghana national team.
