Monaco rival Man Utd for Mensah

Ghana starlet Bernard Mensah’s departure from Portuguese club, Vitoria Guimaraes, increasingly looks imminent.

The 20-year-old has received rave reviews with his impressive performances for the club in the past two seasons and has been linked to many top clubs in Europe just about the end of season.

Clubs like Valencia and Manchester United have consistently been rumoured to be closely following Mensah’s exploits with a view to signing him.

Mensah’s recent joining of football transfer broker Jorge Mendes’ list of top players worldwide has increased his chances of a big club move and a recent meeting looks to have heightened expectations.

French side, AS Monaco, after watching Mensah in action in Vitoria’s last game of the season against Academica are said to have been convinced about his potentials and are serious in rivalling United for his signature.

And they have since reportedly submitted a €6 million offer to land the yet-to-be capped Ghanaian from the Portuguese club.

Now a move to one of Monaco or Manchester United looks set as the attacking midfielder’s agent – Jorge Pires, club officials and associate transfer broker Jorge Mendes and representatives of Vitoria held a meeting at the club’s headquarters on Wednesday to discuss available options.

Jorge Mendes and Pires respectively own 30 and 10 per cent of Mensah’s economic rights and have a say on the former Feyenoord Academy (now WAFA) graduate’s destination.

Vitoria Guimaeres expect to make about €6-8 million euros in transfer fees from the likely sale of Mensah. The fee is expected to represent the club’s largest cash windfall since it was established.
