Commey and Lawson lose promoter Michael King

Two of Ghana's brightest prospects, Richard Oblitey Commey and Fredrick Lawson have been hit with a very big blow to their world championship dreams following the sudden death of Kingsports Worldwide boss, Michael King on Wednesday.

Commey and Lawson have both just began work under the boxing promotional wing of Kingsports Worldwide who have outlined big plans to get both fighters big fights in their push for world title shots.

Commey in fact, only last week sealed the deal with Kingsports and Germany based Sauerland Promotions before his US debut against Bahodir Mamadjonov whilst Lawson started working with Kingsports as far back as last year who gave him his second fight in the US against compatriot, Ray Narh.

King was a renowned US TV and Hollywood guru, rightly nicknamed the king of daytime talk. The man who helped launch the now overly famous Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray's shows, died Wednesday in Los Angeles at age 66. He passed away with his family by his side.

King had been at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood for three weeks in the facility's intensive care unit and was taken off life support Wednesday after being admitted with pneumonia.

Brothers Michael and Roger King inherited King World Productions from their father, Charles King, and went on to bring The Oprah Winfrey Show to syndication in the 1980s. King World Productions also teamed up with Harpo Productions to make Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray successful daytime TV hosts.

The King brothers also obtained the rights to the wildly popular game showsJeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

King World was acquired by CBS in 2000.

In addition to all his TV endeavours, King was also a sports fan. The New Jersey native had been part-owner of the New York Yankees, New Jersey Nets and New Jersey Devils as well as the boxing franchise, Kinsgports Worldwide.

King leaves behind his wife Jena and his children.
