Football Clubs unhappy with SSNIT pension policy

Reports in the media recently have indicated that the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has descended heavily on the football clubs in the country to register their players ahead of their pension but sources close to the office of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) have revealed to sportscrusader.com that the clubs are not happy with the policy.

According to Nkoo Joseph, National Chairman of the Sports Callers Association of Ghana, the policy is to take care of players who face miserable lives after retirement but most club CEO’s are of the view that the policy will benefit SSNIT more than the players.

According to the CEOs who have kicked against the contribution for the players, the life span of most players is not beyond twenty years and that when the clubs contribute, the players will not stand to benefit.

Again, they contend that the contribution becomes meaningless if the players eventually leave for foreign contracts since the contribution cannot continue afterwards.

Some of the club CEOs have therefore, decided not to register for the SSNIT contribution for their players since they do not see the feasible nature of it.
