Adomah’s EPL dreams spoilt by Norwich

Ghana winger Albert Adomah’s dreams of playing in the English Premier League with Middlesbrough were blighted after a 2-0 defeat to Norwich City on Monday at Wembley Stadium.

The two sides went into the final play-off after easily brushing aside their respective opponents in the previous stage.

AFC Bournemouth and Watford earlier secured automatic slots in the EPL after finishing first and second respectively on the Championship table.

However, the third to sixth teams which included Norwich, Middlesbrough, Brentford and Ipswich Town had to go through an initial round of play-offs to determine the winners for the final showdown.

Norwich defeated Ipswich Town 4-2 on aggregate, while Middlesbrough walloped Brentford 5-1.

During the final play-off encounter, it was Alex Neil’s side that stood tall after scoring two first half goals.

Cameron Jerome and Nathan Redmond scored in the 12th and 15th minutes respectively to hand Norwich another return to the English top-flight.

It was a disappointing moment for Adomah, who has had a great campaign with Aitor Karanka’s side this season.

The former Bristol City player made 46 appearances for Middlesbrough during the regular season and scored six goals.

He also scored one of the goals during the play-off stage when Boro defeated Brentford 3-0 in the return leg.

Adomah was watched by Ghana coach Avram Grant during their match with Brentford. It is likely he will make a return to the Black Stars ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers which starts in June.
