Frimpong thrilled with Napredak’s survival

Napredak Krusevac defender Abraham Akwasi Frimpong is glad that his club maintained their Serbian Super lig status with a 2-1 win over Donji Srem over the weekend.

The away win means Napredak will escape relegation, with a superior goal difference although they are tied on 31 points with FK Spartak Subotica.

A defeat or a draw could have sent them back to the Serbian Prva lig after just two seasons in the top flight.

The 22-year-old Ghanaian, who has had a wonderful season, was rested for the clash.

“There have been ups and downs this season. We did not start our campaign very well. We lost 2-0 at home to FK Cukaricki in the first game and that had an effect of us,” Frimpong told Goal.

“Much of the season, we were rooted in the relegation zone but we began to pull ourselves up. I think the away win against Vojvodina and the one against Donji Srem over the weekend defined our season.

“I’m glad that we will be playing in the top flight next season and we must commend ourselves as it was not easy. We will hope to go all out next season,” he said.

Frimpong, who joined Napredak in 2013 from another Serbia club Vojvodina, has been a versatile player since his arrival.

“This season was not bad for me. I featured in so many games and I played in various roles, as a centre-back and as a defensive midfielder. My performance was not bad and I hope to do more next season,” he said.

Meanwhile, Donji Srem, who have two Ghanaians in their fold, former Hearts of Oak skipper Moro Abubakar and Rashid Obuobi, have been relegated.
