New Ghana Amateur Boxing Executive promise to deliver

Members of the newly elected Executive of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) have promised to bring back the glories of Ghana Boxing.
Gideon Quartey, the new President said he had been in the game for so many years and knows the problems and answers to solve.
He called on all stake holders to come together to share ideas for the whole Federation to benefit.
“I am for an all-inclusive administration which is transparent and development oriented. You know we have been organizing boxing every Friday at the Prisons Canteen and it is very popular. We hope to do better and take it to other places so that we can attract and contract talents in boxing” he said.
He hinted that Ghana has to prepare for the All African Games and that is the first issue to tackle as Ghana must go to the tournament and bring back medals since boxing is the hope of the nation.
According to Mr. Quartey scouting for talents in ongoing and appealed to the coaches in the regions especially northern, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti regions to monitor those who are interested and they could be groom to box for the nation.
Theophilus Edwin Addo the youngest GABF Board Member told yours truly they have come with new ideas and plans, but it would not be a drastic change.
“We would change gradually. Ghana Boxing is a brand and we are making sure the brand is protected and projected” he said.
Mr. Addo who is a referee / judge and coach at the Akotoku Academy Boxing Club at Bukom said Boxing is a big business and one has to have the time and energy to do it.
He noted that a lot depends on the coachs, but they are neglected by the boxers after that make fortune and fame. He called for a welfare policy for boxing coaches.
He was happy for the formation of the United Boxing Coaches Association which has ensured that there is democracy and fairness in Ghana Boxing.
Theo Addo said the past is gone, but would be history to learn from. He called for a united Federation which would create opportunities for boxers, coaches, referees, managers and the media who love to report on boxing.
