C.K. Akunnor wants stiffer punishment for football hooligans

Former Black Stars captain Charles Kwablan Akunnor has asked the football authorities to allow the full rigor of the law to take its place against football hooligans.

According to him, it seems that many Ghanaian fans have forgotten about all that happened 14 years ago on May 9 when 126 soccer fans lost their lives in the stadium disaster and are still engaged in acts of hooliganism.

“I am shocked that till date many Ghanaians still want to go to the stadium and attack people for no reason. Many of them have forgotten all that happened on May 9, 14 years ago. Why should people go to the stadium and fear for their lives because they suspect something bad might happen to them,” CK mentioned in an interview with ghanafootballnews.com.

According to him, both the FA and the PLB must issue stiffer punishment for the Clubs, as well as the individuals who are caught in the act, so as to serve as a deterrent to others.

“I believe that Clubs should be banned from playing at their home venues as well as some supporters should also be arrested when caught. It’s not fair for the image of the local league and we the former footballers will strive to make sure that all our league centers become very safe for all.”

“I want to see people going to the various match venues with their wives, husbands and kids to have fun. It shouldn’t be a place where only the strong hearted people go to”.
