Dauda holds no regret over Ashgold return

A compelling urge to remain in the spotlight and the fear of the unknown forced goalkeeper Fatau Dauda to make a rare demand to leave South Africa and return to Ashantigold, his former club.

The former Orlando Pirates shot stopper rejoined the Obuasi-based outfit this season after terminating his contract with South African side Chippa United.

The 28-year-old, who has been stealing the headlines in Ghana following his brilliant form since his return, says he has no regrets for making the move.

“Football is not like schooling where you can go forward and wouldn’t want to repeat. It is totally different, so I have no regrets at all coming back to play at Ashanti Gold,” Dauda told Joy Sports .

“I couldn’t have come back to play in colts or Division Two but for the premier league that is cool.

“I went to South Africa and I have my own reasons for coming back and I must say I’m really happy to be back," he said.

Dauda began his professional career at Ashantigold in 2006, and it remains the only top club where he has plied his trade in Ghana.

He was a member of Ghana national team squad at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, and was made first choice keeper at the 2013 edition.
