Our eyes were redder than the Kotoko jersey - Herbert Addo

Hearts of Oak head coach Herbert Addo has jokingly expressed how determined his side went into the Super Clash game against Asante Kotoko by saying their ‘eyes were redder than the Kotoko jersey’.

Hearts of Oak salvaged a slender 1-0 win at the Baba Yara Stadium courtesy of Selasi Adjei’s 7th-minute strike.

Addo had gone into the game under mounting pressure from Hearts fans, who were unhappy following their abysmal start to the Ghanaian season.

But after winning, the experienced gaffer explained how his side was able to win.

“My players' eyes were red. In fact, their eyes was even redder than the Kotoko jersey,” he said in the post-match presser.

Hearts of Oak had not recorded a league win against Kotoko in seasons, and went into the game on the back of their poor form, but they won against a quality Kotoko side.

A point well echoed by Addo: “Kotoko are a very good side. They have good midfielders. But we worked on it.”
