Striker Kwesi Appiah puts country before club

Striker Kwesi Appiah says he is happier being with the Ghana team at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations rather than fighting for his place at club level.

The 24-year-old has returned to Crystal Palace following the expiration loan stint at Cambridge United.

Appiah was ineligible to play for the English League Two side for their FA Cup clash against Manchester United over the weekend as his loan deal had already expired.

The striker has reverted to his mother club – Crystal Palace – where he is to fight for a regular first team spot under Alan Pardew.

The ex-Peterborough man is however not currently bothered by club football as he says he is fully enjoying his time with the Black Stars.

“The funny thing is that my loan period was ended before the match so I wasn’t going to be involved anyway,” he said.

“But I am happier to be here though.”

Appiah is yet to make his competitive debut for Ghana having scored in the friendly win over Olhanense during the team’s pre-tournament training camp in Spain.
