Kwesi Appiah scores against former club Wimbledon

Ghanaian forward Kwesi Appiah was on target Saturday evening for Cambridge United when they beat his former club Wimbledon 2-1 in the English League Two.

Cambridge United made the worst possible start as Matt Tubbs scored after just 19 seconds for the Dons, the striker racing onto a flick on and rounding goalkeeper Chris Dunn before slotting home.

The visitors restored parity with 12 minutes gone, Appiah, who had a spell on loan at Wimbledon in the second half of last season, finding the top corner from outside the box with a sweetly-struck shot.

Kaikai twice went close for the U's with fierce strikes, while Dunn had to pull off a good save to thwart Sean Rigg at the other end.

Early in the second half, Kaikai went on a dazzling run and was unlucky to see his effort deflected wide, while Ryan Bird got into the Dons' area and fired into the side-netting.

Adebayo Akinfenwa missed a golden chance for the Dons, and moments later United went ahead as Kaikai swung in a free kick and Liam Hughes bundled the ball in at the far post.
