Ralf Zumdick Joining King Faisal

Former Asante Kotoko German coach, Ralf Zumdick is to make a comeback to Ghana with another Kumasi-based team, this time with city rivals King Faisal.

Alhaji Karim Grunsah, has once again gone onto the international market this time not to transfer any of his players but to recruit a foreign coach to guide his club's dreamed renaissance and his catch is former Asante Kotoko German coach, Ralf Zumdick.

The 44year-old coach who guided Asante Kotoko to their historic grand final berth of the African Cup Winners Cup last year is expected to take charge of King Faisal preseason-training camp.

For the first time, Alhaji Grunsah's pet club has moved camp to Accra from Kumasi. Zumdick who is expected to arrive in Accra the next couple of days would finalize the deal with the vociferous Faisal founder, Alhaji Grunsah.

The deal, initiated by Herbert Mensah, Faisal's new partner, who happened to be Zumdick's boss at Kotoko last season, is said to be for a period of one season.

The Kumasi-based club, which moved camp to Accra Sunday to commence intensive preseason training, is currently under South African physical instructor, Jacques Naude who flew into the country over the weekend.

The second coming of Zumdick who aided Asante Kotoko to their historic Cup Winners final would this time see the German taking on different crop of players from the star-studded Asante Kotoko side he propelled to the finals last year and a club with less following than what he always saw at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.

The 44year old former VFL Bochum manager, popularly known as "The Cat" managed VFL Bochum in the 2000 soccer season and quit the club after the 2001 season.

He joined Asante Kotoko after Scott manager; Ian Porterfield was fired by Herbert Mensah's administration for insubordination.

Zumdick a goalkeeper during his soccer days played 282 games for VFL Bochum. "The Cat", joined Bochum in 1981 as a player ended his career as a player after the 1994/1995 season with the club.

Zumdick after Asante Kotoko's loss last year to eventual African Cup Winner's, Wydad Casablanca said his consolation was that his team would have another opportunity to do better than they did, for now its not Asante Kotoko but King Faisal that he's going to lead.

For a club a club that barely fills the Kumasi Sports Stadium their home ground, except playing Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, the Faisal challenge is the opportunity for Zumdick to prove that he can make it under his former boss, Herbert Mensah and partnered by Alhaji Grunsah at King Faisal.
