GFA close to securing sponsorship package for Division One

The Ghana FA is on the verge of sealing a lucrative sponsorship package for the second tier league.

The Division One League has been without a headline sponsor for years now. Clubs within this division have often complained of harsh economic implications associated with competing in the second tier league.

The 48 clubs in this division are now on the verge of getting some financial relief with the GFA’s announcement of securing a GHS 600,000 (over $186, 858) sponsorship package from the GM Bank.

“The Executive Committee have mandated a sub-committee to study a proposal for the sponsorship of the Division One League,” Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi revealed at a press conference on Friday.

“The sponsorship package is to the tune of GHS 600,000 from the GM Bank.”

The committee being put up the Ghana FA Ex.Co is expected to look into the fine details of the prospective sponsorship package before the deal is finally sealed.

The Division One League is the second tier league competition behind Ghana’s elite division.

It promotes three clubs to replace the demoted teams in the Ghana Premier League at the end of every football season.
