Unregistered players may not play in LG competition

Players whose registrations have not yet been finalised by their clubs may not be allowed to feature in the LG Top Four Championship scheduled to kick start from Sunday in Accra and Kumasi Sports Stadiums.

In an interview with the GNA Sports in Accra, Mr Kudjoe Fianoo, Administrative Secretary of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), organisers of the competition, said this is to stem unnecessary protests that would not be healthy for the championship.

He said Ghalca plans to meet the four teams participating in the championship on Thursday to trash out the issue to ensure that players would not bring about protest from any of the team.

Mr Fianoo said in the case a player not being fully registered, then the team would need to produce a letter demanding the release of the player from his former club and a reply form the former club expressing their willingness to allow the player to play.

On whether the trophy could be won for keeps, Mr Fainoo left it at the prerogative of the Sponsor,

SOMOTEX Ghana Limited who presented it. He said as at now they have not yet come out with a firm decision as to whether it would be given out for keeps or replica trophies would be presented to winning clubs.

The LG Top Four championship is going to be an annual preseason completion for teams that finished in the first four positions in the league. It serves as a needed pre-season warm up for the team whiles those who would are preparing for continental competitions also use it because the continental matches starts before the local leagues.

Accra Hearts of Oak won the first edition played last year.

The competition, which would span six weeks, would involve Hearts, Kotoko, Liberty Professionals and Accra Great Olympics who would be playing in a home and away league basis
