New site for Ho Sports Complex

A new 100 acre-land has been identified along the Ho–Adaklu Corridor road for the construction of the Ho Sports complex.

The move from the original site to a new one according to Mr. Francis Ganyaglo, deputy Volta regional minister was enforced by the massive encroachment on the original land by private developers and the nearness to the proposed site for the regional Airport.

Mr Ganyaglo said a visit to the site by the 12-member committee set to acquire the land, document it and see to the construction of the sports complex noticed this practice thereby deciding to look elsewhere.

“Yes a parcel of land has been acquired in the past but as a committee we visited the land and have notice a massive encroachment on it. Another reason is the proximity of the proposed land to the site for the construction of the regional Airport. Expects say it is very inappropriate to have a stadium within 2km Radius to an Airport so we have to look elsewhere. These are the major reasons for the decision” he said.

The call for a new stadia in the Volta region has intensified as the existing facility has deteriorated and has seen no form of renovation since its construction in 1957.

The citizens are worried over the delay in the project and are calling for a fast track of the project as it will go a long way to help develop sportsmen in the Volta region.

The Ho sports complex was a promise made by the past president John Evans Attah Mills to the people in the Volta region which is still yet to be realized.

Meanwhile, the committee has asked the Lands Commission and the Survey Department to have an assessment of the 100 acre-land for its acquisition for the project to begin.
