Laziness causing the chances of local players in Black Stars?

Hearts of Oak coach Mohammed Polo has blamed laziness on the part of some local players as one of the factors which have led to the fall in quality of the local group, hence their limited chances at the senior national team, the Black Stars.

After naming only one local player (Aduana Stars goalkeeper Stephen Adams) in his 26-man preliminary squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil next month, Black Stars head coach defended his decision with the explanation that the current crop of home-based players was not competent enough for the big stage at the moment.

Adding his voice to the claim by the national team head coach, the ex-national star who has been at the helm of technical affairs of the Phobian club since December 2013 and popularly known as the dribbling magician, told Accra-based Power FM:

“Some of the players themselves are lazy and they don’t want to work. They are waiting to get an opportunity outside before they work. And that is why it is very important for these players to know that this is their future, their career, their profession and must work under such a situation we have, [sic], he said on Wednesday.

Ghana took four home-based players to its maiden appearance at the World Cup in Germany and three at South Africa 2010.
