Ray Quarcoo quits Ghana Amatuer Boxing Federation

President of the Ghana Boxing Federation Ambassador Ray Quarcoo has laid down his tools with immediate effect.

According to a letter he sent to the Minister of Youth & Sports Hon.Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, the Goodwill Sports Ambassador’s decision to ‘hang his gloves’ was motivated by a Coup d’tat masterminded by a group calling themselves United Boxing Coaches Association.

The Group led by Greater Accra region boxing coaches and trainers have called for fresh elections, citing expiration of the current administration led by Mr Quarcoo.

However, the letter has indicated writing to the Sports Minister and copied to the International Boxing Association (AIBA)earlier to defer the General Assembly and elections which were due to be held on April 16 to a later date after the Commonwealth Games in August.

It stated “In the wake of these trying moments, as we are strenuously seeking for funds to prepare the team for the Commonwealth Games, a Group of boxing coaches, calling itself United Boxing Coaches Association has made it impossible for me as the elected president and the entire Executive Committee of the Ghana Boxing Federation to continue with our work.

“The Group, which I believe is being backed by the National Sports Authority have in recent times been posting negative publications, invectives and threats to tarnish my reputation.

“The have publicly made proclamation of the dissolution of the current Executive Committee. This action does not only violate the Federation’s Constitution but that of AIBA’s legal provisions.

“In view of the above, regrettably, I wish to inform you that I have formally stepped down today, April 23, as the President of the Ghana Boxing Federation,” the letter added.

The letter, however, stated that the GBF boss has stated that he will continue to avail himself for to serve the nation in his capacity as the Goodwill sports ambassador.

Ray Quarcoo is an active patron of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG)
