John Mensah marks Nitra debut in defeat

Defender John Mensah played his first competitive game in ten months after completing the entire regulation minutes for his Slovakian side Nitra FC on Monday night.

The 31-year-old marked his debut in the Slovakian Super Liga in defeat as his Nitra side slipped to a 2-1 home loss to Slovan Bratislava at the Štadión pod Zoborom.

Mensah’s side conceded in the 8th minute but they pulled even early in the second half before allowing their visitors to nail them to defeat and leave them at the foot of the table.

Mensah joined Nitra last month on a short-term deal as a free agent as he seeks to rediscover his form in order to make the Ghana squad for the 2014 World Cup.

The former Sunderland defender had not actively played a league game since May 2013 when he played in the French Ligue 1 for Stade Rennes.
