Bukom Banku and managers agree to part ways

Sportsinghana.com can exclusively report that the marriage between unbeaten boxer, Braimah Kamoko AKA Bukom Banku and his managers-cum-promoters, Golden Concepts International and Golden Mike Promotions has come to an abrupt end after both parties agreed to terminate the abiding contract which was renewed barely four months ago.

A letter dated 15th January, 2014 signed by syndicate President, Henry Manly-Spain and CEO, Mike L.A. Tetteh addressed to Kamoko and copied to the President of Ghana Boxing Authority and the United Coaches Association as well as the media spelt it out that the existing 3-year contract which was running from 21st September 2013 to 20th September 2016 had been terminated with immediate effect.

“We wish to inform you that the existing Boxer/Manager/ Promoter between you BRAIMAH KAMOKO and Golden Mike Boxing Promotions and Management Syndicate is terminated and we wish to inform you that we have released you to continue your professional boxing career anywhere of your choice,” the letter stated.

It added: “This takes effect from the 16th January, 2014. Whilst thanking you for your relationship with us during the times past, we also wish the best of luck in your future endeavours.”

Unbeaten Kamoko (26-0, 20 KOs) has been in the news over the past week demanding to abrogate the existing contract with the Henry Manly-Spain led managerial and promotional team citing a lack of international exposure which he said was undermining his world championship ambitions.

Kamoko has been the headline boxer in the Golden Mike and Golden Concepts boxing stable since signing with them in 2010 for an initial 3-year period which was renewed for another three years when it expired in September last year.

Under their stewardship, Bukom Banku won the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight title in January 2011, defending it twice before moving up in weight to claim the WBO Africa Cruiserweight belt in December 2012. The highlight of the relationship was when Banku was named the WBO Africa boxer of the year in 2011 aside a recognition by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana.
