Boateng eyeing career revival

Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng has told Football411 that he is hopeful of enhancing his chances of securing a spot at this year's World Cup by joining Watford on loan.

The 30-year-old has found his opportunities at Fulham limited since his arrival at Craven Cottage last May, notching up just five appearances for the club.

With the World Cup rapidly approaching, Boateng is well aware that he needs to be playing regularly if he is to make the cut for the Black Stars' squad. As such, a move to Championship outfit Watford is on the cards, with Fulham confirming that the former Getafe man is in talks with the Hornets.

Speaking exclusively to Football411, Boateng admitted that he was sad to leave the London outfit but that it needed to be done, especially following former manager Martin Jol's dismissal late last year.

"I want to play and revive my career and I have been told that it will be very difficult for me to get more games, so I think is a right decision for me to move on at least for six months," Boateng explained.

"I saw this coming when Scott (Parker) came back from injury, he is an excellent player who gives his all so it was always going to be difficult for me at Fulham, but I believe in myself and I know what I can do.

"It was hard to see Martin go, because he was the person that brought me to Fulham," he added.

"I was saddened with his departure and that was when I realized that I have to move on in search of more playing time, and I have been assured of that at Watford so that is what I want to do."

Boateng has not played for the national team since the Africa Cup of Nations in early 2013, and is eager to prove his worth to Ghana boss Kwesi Appiah.

"Most of the Ghanaian players are moving from one club to the other to get enough playing time to cement a place in the World Cup squad and I am no exception, I want to go to the World Cup and I cannot do that by warming the bench at Fulham," he asserted.
